Ghana is a beautiful country in Africa, with vast expanses of wilderness and coastline, some wonderful waterfalls, forests and also delicious food. Ghanaians are known to be warm, peaceful, caring and hospitable, and visitors are always welcomed as friends and treated with respect. It is currently one of the strongest economies in West Africa due to its abundance of natural resources. Ghana is also home to more than 100 different ethnic groups.
Traveling to another country is a whole experience, but traveling to a country to make an impact supporting local schools and building essential health infrastructure is a life changing and unique opportunity. The Squads Abroad Ghana team will host you in the Central Region within the Ekumfi and Abura Asebu Kwamankese Districts and connect you directly with community leaders to collaborate on high impact projects. Communities will welcome you with open arms, and don’t worry, English is country’s national language, so you won’t have any problems trying to communicate.
The ancient culture of Ghana and their activities.
During your Squad, you and your team will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant culture of Ghana. Upon arrival, volunteers will be welcomed with a special traditional drumming and dancing circle just for Squads Abroad volunteers. This presentation is a very important cultural practice for Ghanaians, and volunteers will have the opportunity to learn more about their music and clothing, and even join in and play some drums.
During your Squad, you will also have the chance to explore some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, including hiking and a Canopy walk at Kakum National Park. You will also visit the historic Cape Coast Castle and discover the local beauty on a special cottage boat ride in Cape Coast.
One of the greatest adventures in Ghana is a visit to a local market. Your team will visit the Mankessim market to experience all of the colors and smells of Ghana, and even purchase some gifts to bring home.
And don’t forget about the enrichment opportunities
Your students can also explore other areas of the country through our guided overnight packages. They can spend a night or two exploring beaches, walking through rainforests, visiting other national parks, and many other rewarding activities!
