The Cultural Activities you can experience to embrace Guatemala’s Soul
Each afternoon, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in guided cultural activities, educational workshops, and excursions that unveil the heart of Guatemala. You will delve into the traditions of chocolate making and learn the time-honored techniques passed down through generations.
You can engage your senses with a traditional pottery workshop, shaping clay into masterpieces that embody Guatemalan artistry. Master the art of tortilla making and savor the flavors of this cultural cornerstone. And don’t forget you can experience a journey through time with a tour of the impressive Maya ruins of Iximche Archeological Park, where ancient civilizations can whisper their tales. Or if you want to grow your knowledge you can do it by enhancing your linguistic repertoire with Spanish and Kaqchikel language lessons, bridging the gap between cultures and fostering deeper connections.
The opportunity of the enrichment activities
During your week of service and cultural immersion, there will be many options for enrichment activities, and one of them can be to embark on a journey to Lake Atitlan and Antigua, two of Guatemala’s most beautiful and famous destinations. At Lake Atitlan, a picturesque expanse of shimmering waters, you can explore the bustling artisan markets, where handcrafted treasures reflect the region’s artistry. Take a private boat across the lake to the Maya village of San Pedro, where weaving workshops unveil the intricate techniques of this time-honored tradition.
Each artisan product has its own story; one example of this is the “Tusa doll”:
Amongst the highland Indians of Guatemala there is a legend. If you have a problem, before going to bed, share your problem with a doll that is made out of “Tusa”, then place it beneath your pillow. While you sleep, the doll will take away your worries, and it will disappear.
We invite high school teachers to organize a Global Impact Squad with their students to travel to Guatemala to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of this country while also being of service to local communities. Please schedule a call or contact us to learn more.
